Learning behaviours are not an optional extra. They are the core of every successful lesson and must be present if students are to get the very best from their learning. When we expect them, teach them, and hold to them, we give every pupil the chance to thrive.
The Behaviour for Learning framework, developed by Dr Simon Ellis and Professor Janet Tod, helps us to see how pupils’ relationships with themselves, with others, and with the curriculum shape these behaviours. When we strengthen those relationships, we create the conditions for deep engagement and real progress.
This Pocket PL is a foundational introduction to BfL and a chance to reflect on how you build and protect learning behaviours in your classroom, and how to make them a consistent expectation in every lesson.
