Metacognition. It’s a concept that’s been around for years, and chances are, you’re already doing much of it (even without all the signposting we love in education!). Often described as “thinking about thinking,” metacognition is a skill that helps students become more aware of their learning processes. It enables them to plan, monitor, and evaluate their progress, fostering independence and resilience.
To support you, I’ve put together a (relatively) comprehensive set of slides that you can adapt to suit your needs; there will likely be far too much included, delete what you don’t need. They’ll hopefully offer a clear explanation of what metacognition is, why it matters, and, most importantly, practical strategies for integrating it into your classroom.
As with previous resources, whether you’re a seasoned educator or just starting your teaching journey, this resource is designed to help you as you take a step toward creating reflective, self-directed learners.
